Hi all.

Really dumb questions probably. Just got the CANON DC60 case for the new A520 camera (replaces the A95). And for the life of me can't figure out how to gently remove the O-ring (which was shipped already in the groove) from the case in order to make sure I grease it on all surfaces.

Its down in a channel such that I can't get a fingernail under it, and even if I could I'm worried I'd scratch or gauge the o-ring doing that, using a screwdriver, etc.

Any ideas? The pictures "push it in from two sides lengthwise so it loops up" bit just ain't gonna cut it. If it was that slack it wouldn't work as an o-ring in the first place....

Try and wipe clean the extra grease first so that your fingers can get grip on the O-Ring........do not use a screw driver or nails.

Squeezing the oring together does work, but takes a little practice. Alternately. slipping a credit card edge underneath the oring and gently lifting it up and out of the groove is acceptable as well.

Yeah and I use a little MacDonalds? plastic spoon, the real small ones...

Just push the o-ring together at the corner and slide the spoon underneath it...
OR??
like the oly plastic triangle pick, from a plastic milk carton?? get some sissors and cut a triangle ... warning, only suggesting here, might be too sharp and not strong enought (that's what happens when I multi-task - type and think at the same time ) LOL....

Dry the 0-rings (you're going to greese them up when you put them back) and dry your fingers.. and try a corner area...

Hope that helps..

Thanks for the advice. Think I'll wait until I've got my replacement O-rings in hand before I try again. Somehow I can just picture myself borking it and having no backup, just before vacation to St. Martin and Saba.... ("D'oh!!")

Well, finally tried it with backups in hand, and it did work - eventually. Man, that's tougher than it looks.

I ended up holding a plastic picnic-type butter knife (no teeth or sharp spots) in my mouth and the case on my knees, pushed my fingers up both sides of the O-ring to make a gap in the middle top, then leaned forward to get the knife between the O-ring and case. Then I could release the ring with my hands and use that leverage point to pop it out of the groove.

Would be much easier with a third hand, or someone to help out. ;)

FYI, the A520 isn't a replacement for the A95. The A95 is still a current model (and likely better than the A520 in many respects).
