Do you remember Mercedes, back in the 70's? She was the little girl who had the spot at the corner of the malecon and Juarez, next to Las Palmeras. She couldn't have been more than seven or eight, but she looked about five. She always carried a cigar box full of change in dollars and pesos, and all the other kids would come to her to sell their pesos. It was amazing to watch her haggle with the other little chicle vendors over the day's rate of exchange. She was a pistol. I'll bet she is retired now and living the life of Riley.

I did not know that that was her name, but I darn sure do remember her. Cure as a button.

Thanks for the memory.

Cheers,
