hi all, i have two regs, which would you dive and why?

i have a scubapro mk25 first stage and a S600 second
and an atomic 1st stage titanium B1 second

Both (for sidemount)?
If IP holds up and they are in tune both are beautiful (-ly performing ) regs in

I’d look into getting the Atomic 1st sealed if it’s not already, sadly not something that you could do qith the mk25

I fear you might be comparing sea salt to rock salt.
Minor differences.
All modern approved regs perform to a set standard.

I have used 5 types of breathing apparata:
1. Apeks regulators. Great regulators. I tuned the cracking pressure up to make them free flow a bit less. I like the fact that it is a DEMAND valve.
2. Poseidon Cyclon. OK, but my mouth is not big enough.
3. Kirby Morgan Band Mask. What a suffocating experience. Enough air, yes, but it did not feel good.
4. Kirby morgan helmet (don't know the exact model). Much better.
5. Siebe & Gorman standard diving dress with brass helmet. Yes, the 19th century setup. My absolute favorite. Work of breathing is nonexistent and it feels spacious and great! (the amount of weight carried is prohibitive, though)

So... I am not sure there is a significant difference between Scubapro and Atomic...
Just make sure the mouth piece feels good.
And make sure you can get the thing serviced.

The Scubapro is a piston reg and not optimal for extreme cold.
As far as I know, the same is true for Atomic.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Atomic is a titanium reg, thus lighter and better for air travel.

Atomic B1 is brass 1st stage, and they can be sealed for cold water use

Diaphraghm model? I thought all piston 1st stages would be open?

Still a piston, Atomic just fills the entire chamber with crystolube and puts a rubber band around it. My understanding is it is not really necessary unless you are ice diving (or just really cold, less than 40) or diving in really silty environments.

I used to as well (and back then I was a bigger fan of diaphragms)

Back in the day, someone had a great idea of filling the environmental chamber with silicone, and putting a „transmission diaphragm“ around the ambient holes/grooves to keep the piston responding to depth changes
I can’t tell what’s the earliest company model, but probably it was the scubapro mk5 — they were called SPEC boots

Somewhere at the time of mk20s Scubapro stopped supporting the idea of a spec boot
Around the same time some engineers left SP to start Atomic; they kept the tradition of spec boots

Old Poseidon diaphragms had similar concept to environmental sealing, using vodka (not a trans piston like modern regs — apeks, mk17/19…) under another outer diaphragm
