Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if Different Regs effect your air use? Thinking about upgrading and would like to get every spare moment of bottom time. Thx.

Michael B.

For most divers, a regulator with less inhalation effort will produce slightly lower air consumption.

What works best is a regulator that lets you take long, slow, deep breaths without making you suck on the reg for it and yet without trying to inflate you with positive pressure.

There's a sweet spot that you need to get right. If a reg throws air down your throat you use it up quickly, likewise, if you have to work hard to breathe from a reg you'll use more air for the increased effort. If you can get a flow adjust valve on a second stage you can find the optimum sweet spot fairly easily.

While a high performance reg might get you a little more bottom time, you will probably have to look at technique & experience, and gas supply to have any sizable impact.

Good reg give you good performance in any depth especially deep water dive.
Air consumption is depend you technique of breath experiences and regs performance

My personnel advice Apeks ATX/XTX 200 and Scubapro Mk25/S600 consider one of the height performance regs

Forget about upgrading. Air consumption directly proportional to physical fitness. Losing excess weight and getting on a regular cardio workout three times a week would produce better air consumption. Even meditation or yoga should work.
