We won a seven-day timeshare offer from Great Vacation Destinations, out of Lauderhill, Florida. Once the information packet came in, we became concerned. Has anyone heard of this group or this package? I'm almost ready to cancel and book something from our LDS.

The package includes four days in Orlando, a two-night cruise to Nassau/Paradise Island on Imperial Majesty's Regal Empress, and two days in "South Florida." No information about hotels is given, and there is no website listed.
I did some hunting on the internet and "great vacation destinations" is just a generic term on many sites, none of which are connected to this offer.

I did find Imperial Majesty's Regal Empress on the net. The cruise looks alright, but there is a hidden charge of $100-200 for their land excursions at Nassau, with no scuba option. Even if we scheduled our own diving, I'm concerned that we might get in late or miss getting back on board by 5:30 pm

The promotion also includes two Universal Studios two-day Star Passes and a seven-day economy car rental.
The timeshare pitch is "generally no more than two hours at the host resort(s)."

The cost -- already paid -- is $598, plus $149 per person reservation processing fee. "Transportation to and from destinations, meals, hotel taxes, gratuities, and incidentals such as telephone calls are not included." Also, even if we did get a confirmation about where we would be staying, "GVD reserves the right to substitute a provider of equal or greater value in the event any component of the vacation is not available with our advertised providers on purchaser's travel dates."

The only other thing I could find was some small print on the envelope mentioning Bluegreen Corporation. Their website lists them as a vacation ownership resort out of Boca Raton, Florida, but does not mention Great Vacation Destinations.

So, does anyone recognize this?

Thanks for the help. We contacted the reservation department and, after more study, have cancelled our reservation.
Part of the sales pitch to keep the package was that they understood that many people are not interested in the timeshares. They just want vacationers to have a good time and go home praising the trip to their friends.
I'll keep you posted about how quickly we get our $598 back!

No offense, but alarm bells should have immediately gone off in your head when the "free trip" turned into YOU having to PAY.

Good luck getting your money back,
