I've got a Hog reg that is "sticking" a bit. What I mean by this is that as I inhale, it delivers air (not real easily), but as I inhale a little harder, it will all of a sudden deliver air much easier. Basically a non-linear relationship between effort and air delivered.

This started on a liveaboard about 5 days in after not being soaked and it seems soaking it or diving in my local quarry now improves it a bit, but the effect is still there.

Anything I can do easily to improve matters or just bring it in?

I'm not familiar with the reg you have, but assuming it's a barrel poppet 2nd stage a la G250.... If you're a bit mechanically inclined you could take of the 2nd stage diaphragm cover, take the diaphragm off, and work the lever back and forth see if it's sticking. You might get lucky just cleaning it. More likely would be some salt and/or corrosion causing the poppet to stick inside the air barrel.

I would kind of doubt it's a first stage issue, but I'm just guessing. The bottom line is, if it sat with salt water, and now it's not working right, you need to get it rebuilt.

I did what you suggest on the boat (when the problem was worse) and the demand lever did seem to be sticking a bit. Now, it doesn't seem like it. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Hi,
When you purchased the reg did you have the first stage and second stage tuned together ?
If you were to put the second stage into some water with the mouth piece looking up, how deep into the water can the reg go before it starts to blow air ? (do this with the reg on a cylinder and under pressure)
