how difficult is it to put together your reg parts, meaning connecting the hoses to the 1st stage? Everyone at my LDS tells me I would need a certified tech for this job.. is it really that difficult to screw in a couple of LP 3/8" hoses and your HP 7/16" AI computer hose (alternatively an SPG). is there a certain torque you need to apply ? or maybe there are certain testers they use to check the pressure or something..
I'm asking because I'm considering buying online the apeks atx 50, but already have a couple of parts like my BC QD hose and my computer.. are there any other tools needed ? probably a couple of wrenches for the plugs..just being curious.. thanks

About the only thing you can do wrong is overtighten. Scubapro recommends 44 in-lb of torque but hitting the exact # isn't too important. I doubt if the LDS would put a torque wrench in this one. The O-ring makes the seal, so start out with hand tight. Then use an open end wrench to snug it up so you can't undo it by hand. Then check it often & retighten if it loosens. Buy a small thing of silicon grease. A light coat on the o-ring before assembly will let it tighten without binding.

Take a look at this thread for other things you can do to test your new rig before the first real dive.

Good luck - and you might want to look around for another LDS.

You can do that yourself. I certainly would not pay someone.

I had the same question a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to advice from some of the folks on the board I went ahead and swapped the hoses on my regs and it all worked out fine.

Check out Uncle Pug's comments in this thread.

By the way, Aquamaniac strongly recommends against using adjustable wrenchs. First they will have a tendency to wear down your edges and secondly they are usually too wide to fit when attaching hose to the first stage. The overall effect is to cause scrapes and surface damage to either your first stage or the outside of the nut.

Use Krytox or Christolube on the O ring don't use silicone..Silicone is not O2 compatable for use with nitrox.....

who might sell this stuff locally ? I've asked at one LDS, at a couple of hardware stores, one automotive store, nobody's heard about it.. there is always the internet but then they'd probably charge me more for shipping than the stuff is actually worth it :)

Take a minute after you "see how much they are worth" to get your breath back. The good news is the shipping is relatively cheap. I noticed that LeisurePro has an O2 compatible lube (AQUSGN25) for about $10.00. That tube of christolube is awfully expensive unless you are going to start servicing your own gear.
