The referal url lets you tell people about ScubaBoard and if they signup, they are linked to your account. There is no real benefit to this (i.e. you don't get anything) but for some people it's nice to know who they've referred so we provide this option in the hopes that people will use it to tell more friends about the board.

Cool... I will be happy to use it then... I'm always writing out your URL on scraps of paper... this is easier! Thanks
