Any input on Reeftrekkers in Oahu, Hawaii? I was considering doing an OW referral and possibly AOW there while on vacation early next year. (Needless to say, I'd qualify as a novice.)Feedback?

Hi RR75,

I did my last two OW dives with Reeftrekkers last week and they were great. I especially liked that they only take out small groups.

John was my instructor and I highly recommend him. He was patient and encouraged me when I needed it. More importantly, he wouldn't let me do any less than my very best.

I did another dive a few days later and again, had a great experience. All of the staff were friendly and professional.

Good luck to you! I know you'll be happy if you decide to go with Reeftrekkers.

I had an excellent experience with Hawian Sea Adventures, they are located in Pearl City (about 20 minutes from downtown), good rates and nice shop. They cater to locals, but are very friendly. Took my AOW while on vacation there, and about 8 extra shore dives with one of their DM's (only cost for those was the air rental, can't beat it). Chepar can also give you more information, it is her local shop.

rusty:) :)

What about coming back for a Rescue class, Rusty? ;)

I'm taking an equipment class in a couple weeks with Chris, and I'm looking forward to it.

RR75-

Sorry, I have no experience with Reeftrekkers. However, if you want information on other shops or other things on Oahu, send me a PM and I can try to help you.

Just send me a ticket, and I will figure how to get out of work, water temp. here in FL is starting to cool off, so it would be nice. Let me know how the equipment class goes. At least you should not have any currents at the shop to worry about.:D

I did a couple of dives with them in March and it was a good experience. The DM and staff were friendly and offered a lot of information about the island. My only complaint would be that lack of reguard for wildlife. I did watch the DM taunt a moray with his knife which I would rahter he not have done, but it not like he was poking it with the blade And he left everything else alone. Overall it was the experience I was told I would have. Since there is little to no coral, especially soft coral no one seemed particularly concearned about staying off the bottom. Overall I would rate the experience as a 7 out of 10. You should also be able to look them up on Rodale's website, I know the readers have rated them well.
