A Pre-oil spill survey is planned for the Florida Keys: (how could we not get involved???)
Hello Reef fans and divers and friends of Ocean Rehab Initiative Inc. (our CRI)
Because of the #'s of divers, snorklers, and free divers that are planning show up, we have chosen the:
Marine Mammal Conservancy as the meeting point for the project,
102200 Overseas Highway
Key Largo, Florida 33037 (under the Large Radio Tower)
The MMC's parking lot accomodates over 100 cars, it makes sense and they love us...
Interested marine volunteers should meet at the MMC between 900-930am this Saturday for further instructions. Please do not contact MMC for details or directions.
Interested marine volunteers should bring snorkel or dive equiptment, GPS and Underwater Camera equiptment if possible.
---------------------------------------
Our preliminary protocol for the monitoring: (special thanks goes to Dr. Marr and Dr. Hodgson)** if FKNMS or TNC or Reef Relief would like for use to include other protocol, we will implement to satisfy their needs.
Reefs- 100meter transect with 2 GPS locations (start and finish), photo and videography of hard and soft coral cover in transect with Marked slate (in photo) identifying the location of transect.
Seagrasses- 100meter transect 2 GPS locations (start and finish), photo and videography
of seagrasses present on transect with Marked slate (in photo) identifying the location of transect.
Mangroves- 100meter transect 2 GPS locations (start and finish), photo and videography
