Frustration with all of the above!!!

I have been here now for almost 3 years, at the end of august my H-class visa will expire and i have to get it renewed. I have pushed my company to actually get the ball rolling to get it renewed before the current one expires (i asked last october) and they enquired finally, the lawyers said they couldnt apply before a certain date, which they held to and applied on my behalf on 3/30 and at the moment the application is pending approval. They say it will take 4-6 months to go through, which could either be the end of this month or the end of september or maybe longer as that is only a typical timeframe.

I enquired again today about it and with further questions, due to the date slowly drawing nearer and got the same response with the additional info that i will no longer have the luxury of renewing my visa in my passport by sending it to NY (as has and will be case up until 7/16 - next week), well that is great timing. They then went on to suggest that they didnt put my application up for a priority and get my company to pay an extra $1000 (i earn them more per day than that in fees), which probably would have got this thing settled by now and allowed me the more convenient route of restamping in this country. Whenever this petition is approved i will now either have to go back to the UK or to Canada (i am asking if i can do it elsewhere to make a vacation out of it (Caribbean, Mexico or the like) and wait on that response, but i doubt it, things dont work like that) to get my new visa - which really scuppers me financially and with the limited vacation time i have available to me, it just frustrates me when people put more hurdles in the way of things than really need to be there and dont lift a finger to provide any assistance or advice. I am flying pretty blindly into this and am getting any info piecemeal as i have to nearly throttle it out of my company or the lawyers (i can only dream ;) )!

On another frustration to do with stupid people/organisations and work, i applied for my PE (Professional Engineer) exam last fall, to take it this past april. Due to clerical errors on the "Board of 'Professional' Engineers" it wasnt even acknowledged until after the deadline and although i anticipated receiving a late entry form etc (as is the case from what i hear, 1-2 week notice is typical before the exam) i was disgusted to find a postcard not 6 days before the exam date saying "your application has been received and will be up for review May 5" or something to that effect - after the exam date. So i gave up studying for that april exam at that point. Then last month i received another notice saying "the administrative duties for these exam has been passed over to ______, please find details on their website ______ after July 1, you will have to pay your application fee ($300+) to them and we will reimburse you in due course for the fees you paid us" or words to that effect. So they have had my $325 for the last 9 months now, which is kind of a chore as i have to pay it out again before hoping to see a refund. Also upon searching the website for the new admin i found that they wont give info out until 7/15 now, although i am sure that will be put back as well ;)

Red tape just *&%#$!@ me off

I hear ya, I hear ya,

try doing it in a language that is not your own........ Here they have no word for red tape, and they dont actually know what you are talking about when you use the phrase. You feel like beating your head against the wall...

I forgot to add, its a good job i dive and have fun doing that, getting to know a great girl and have pleasure in the rest of my life, but sometimes you just get frustrated by some rediculous system when they mess you around.

I couldnt imagine doing it in a non-English speaking country. Lets just say these are the latest in a long sting of things that havent quite gone to plan in moving here, but i will perceiver!! ;)

Hear your pain bro, from South Africa myself............at this point, I'm asking myself if it's really worth it. So many morons around, can't take it anymore, mind you there is more there.........Spain, here I come.

I hear your pain. I have a Green Card these days and the difference coming back into the USA is amazing. Immigration officials are now actually pleasant!!!

Several years ago I got an H1-B visa renewed at the American Consulate in Juarez,Mexico. I dont think the diving in Juarez is up to much but if ,say, Cancun has a consulate you could probably renew a visa there

Same visa, same kind of idea of doing a vacation whilst waiting for the visa to be signed off. Green card - now that is a little way off yet, unfortunately ;)

Jess, where do you propose i find one of those, all the way across the country? ;)

Oh they're everywhere, you may want to even look in Vegas, that way you wouldn't have that far to jaunt to the nearest same-day chapel...then you could skip on down to Lake Mead, throw off your wedding digs, and dive! ;)
