I have just received my Recsea S95 housing and now wish to get a tray and grip/handle for it. Originally I was looking at the Recsea STG-05JL2 but have had difficulty finding a supplier. The other alternative is the Ultralight TR-DM with one of the ULCS handles. Any opinions? Anyone know where I can source the Recsea tray?

Hi,

I have an Inon M1 gripbase and a D4 handle with my Recsea S95 (plus 2 ULCS arms and an Inon Z240). It's still compact and very easy to handle. The base is far from the plate so no risk of interference. The base is relatively thick; I have no problem of twisting or anuthing like that (but my rig isn't very heavy). The base has short screws which double as rest legs topside.

I have the Inon AD conversion ring (don't buy it. I'll change it soon for either the combination recommended on this forum or a Dyron Ad conversion ring) and use a UWL-100-28AD or a UCL-165-AD.

Hope that helps
Cheers

Thanks for the advice Downunder Frog and the photos as well. There certainly are a lot of (confusing) options. I am mainly interested in compact but good quality equipment. I know I'll end up with two strobes (probably S2000's for their size and performance) so thinking maybe I should get a two handle tray from the start. I know you can add another handle to the ULCS trays, but it then looks a bit messy. Bayonet lenses seem the way to go but still researching the options.Off to Singapore in a couple of weeks so need to finalise my shopping list.

I built my own:

Since that photo the handles have been changed out to form fitting pistol grips robbed from old Oceanic trays that are much nicer than the bicycle mtb grips.

I am tempted Nemrod to make one like yours with a doubler and a bottom plate that gets the handles a bit closer to the housing which is so small.

For info, you can attach a second handle to the Inon M1. There is a picture here: INON NEWS: Grip Base M1 for X-2 for GF1

I've spent a lot of time choosing my tray/handle. I almost decided to do it myself. I was a bit worried the M1 would be too big but I'm really happy with it. I will add a second strobe and a second handle once I've progressed with one strobe.

I have a FIX S90, Inon S2000, INON UCL165AD x 2 and INON UFL165AD that I set up differently depending on what I expect.

My general purpose set up is for when I want to have both wide angle and macro lenses with me on a single dive.

This is the tray that was recommended to me Ultralight Tray for Ikelite and Seatool housings. The ULCS Arms with the Inon Dual Lens holder works great when I want the ability to swap lenses on a single dive.

For this I set up on ULCS Tray and arms with the Inon dual lens holder.

When I expect to do only macro, I switch over to my old flex arm and aluminum tray. This makes for a very light and compact rig and easy to move the single S2000 strobe around.

Yes, the advantage to making your own is that you can size it to fit your camera and your hands. Mine measures 9&3/8ths inches from center of grip to center of grip. Of course, the right side is removable and then it is even smaller and lighter.

Thanks everyone for your ideas, certainly gives me some food for thought and a couple of more questions.
1. What was the problem with the inon AD conversion ring, Downunder Frog?
2. Does that shoe mount interfere with the ring function and power buttons, Ozziworld? I was thinking I would need something smaller like the Epoque Clog Shoe Flex Arm to mount a focus/video light on top of the recsea s95 housing.
3. ! think 9 inches handle centre to handle centre is about right for me
4. What do your new handles look like Nemrod?

The stainless hooked locking plate of both Inon and Fisheye Shoe mounts interfere with the power button.

I also found it a rather loose fit on the shoe as well. My friend's Fisheye one is the same. I got some large heat shrink tubing and wrapped it around the shoe, heated it then trimmed of the excess. now it fits snugly on the Housing shoe and the lockdown ring does a good job of keeping everything in place. If you look closely at the photos, the stainless locking plate is pushed forward to clear the power button. It does not work that well even when it is in the intended position since the hot shoe is a little large and the mounts can slip on and off easily if not modified.

I can't tell if the Epoque mount will be a snug fit. The original stainless shoe mount is oversized IMO. So I assume any properly sized shoe mount will be a loose fit that will be depending too much on the lock down ring.
