Looking for recommendations for a dive shop near Moon Palace - We have a 15 yo grandson who needs to get his open water certification. Plus, we'd like to get some dives in as well! My wife and I both have over 50 dives. Thanks,

In the Moon Palace there is Aquaworld as far as I know. Huge operation, all over the coast. Smaller places to be found in Cancun hotelzone or Puerto Morelos.

Both Cancun and Puerto morelos are about 15 minutes away by car.

Speaking from personal experience I wouldn't recommend Aquaworld to my worst enemy for diving. They are, as mentioned above, a huge operation and very good at getting you there, but the actual diving experience was awful.

I knew the cattle boat would be bad...

Why near moon? The beach sucks there - at least when I went. I find the beaches in cancun to be rougher than I enjoy swimming in. Too rough for small kids for sure.

Want a great cancun beach? Find a hotel on the north facing shore like The Krystal and west from there...

We're committed to staying at Moon - The water's calm there, not as much surf action as in the hotel zone.

Went with Aquaworld once in Cozumel - Then Palace Resorts bought AquaSafari a couple years ago.

We've been using Solo Buceo (Next door to the Hyatt in the Hotel Zone) the last couple seasons we've gone down there. They are also on the ocean/gulf side, not the lagoon side, so the boat ride is pretty short to get to the dive sites. It's always been my wife and I plus the DM, so ratios are small, and their largest boat holds maybe 8-10 people tops. They would pick us up by taxi from the Royal Resorts. Not sure if Tony or Yellen ("Yel") are still dive mastering there, but they are both awesome DM/Guides (and I believe instructors...Yel is for sure). Yellen would remember us (Mark & Camille) if she's still there. She is also doing instruction freelance if you're interested in contacting her directly for private instruction. Her website is SELARK

Sorry to hear that. I was majorly disappointed that the water looked not Caribbean blue like you'd expect but instead not much better than a murky Texas lake. Yes the water is calm, but the beach is full of seaweed... I don't swim in the seaweed, that's where the sea lice are
