My fiance and I just returned from a cruise (RCI), and one of the stops was Costa Maya. By pure luck we found a fabulous dive shop named Blue Ha in Mahahual, which is south of Costa Maya. Everyone was wonderful, the diving was great, and the whole day was enjoyable. I am new to diving, and the staff made me feel very safe and comfortable, but also pushed me to try new things. The reef is absolutely beautiful. My fiance is a rescue diver, and he was also completely satisfied with his diving experience. So, long story short, if you're going to Costa Maya on a cruise, or you're in the area for whatever reason, get ahold of Blue Ha! (bluehadiving.com). One suggestion. If you go by cruise ship, there should be a shuttle which will take you into Mahahual. When we went, we got off the shuttle and then decided to walk the rest of the way, not knowing exactly where Blue Ha was. Don't do what we did! The walk was about a half hour, but in the afternoon sun carrying all our gear, I wouldn't recommend it. There should be taxis where the bus drops you off, so get one of them, and just tell them Blue Ha. They'll know what it is. Happy diving!!!!

I'll back that recommendation up. My girlfriend did a "resort course dive" with them and joined me for my second dive of the day (with Instructor in tow). They made her (and me) feel comfortable with her first experience w/SCUBA (so much so that she wanted to do it again in Cozumel and is now looking to get certified).

For those that are more expreienced they seem to have some great sites available and the crew are great. Don't expect camera tables and rinse tanks aboard though, this is skiff diving, back roll entries. The shop gets its electricity through solar panels and internet service through a satelite provider.

Hello! We were actually on the Grandeur of the Seas, so I don't know about your exact itinerary, etc. We had a wonderful time, though, and I hope you do as well. Have a great time with Blue Ha!

When we went one of the staff, Becky, dove with us and filmed our dive. She showed us the footage she got of all the coral, fish, turtles, lobsters, etc. between our dives, then edited everything during our second dive. By the time we'd finished our second dive she'd made an AWESOME video with wildlife footage as well as footage of us, all put to music. It cost us $70, but it was well worth it. If they offer it to you, I would highly recommend it.

Hochhauser: I'm on the 4/17 sailing of the Jewel as well and have reservations for 2 dives with Blue Ha. If you're interested in touching base prior you can reach me at jimtonra at hotmail.com. I'm also diving in Coz with Eagle Ray Divers.
