I just returned from these two places and havent had time to sit down and write a trip report...but want to say that if you want to go to dive Fakarava, consider staying at Tokerau Village Pension....this really was one of my best-if not very best-experiences ever... The 4 bungalows are basically new, perfectly appointed and comfortable, the food was great... I spent some time at the hotel on Fakarava, hanging out with other divers, and honestly, dont see the advantage. Because the woman who runs Tokerau is from FP(I think she has spent much of her life on that particular atoll) I got to actually have much more of an immersion experience than I would have otherwise had. If that isnt what you want when you go to another country, you wouldnt have to engage with any of that at all at Tokerau..it would be up to you.
It really was one of my greatest pleasures to lay awake in the bungalow at night and listen to the rain...then wake up, eat breakfast family style with the other travellers and the occasional family guest of Juahina.. then go dive.
I booked my trip through Laurel at DiveTahitiBlue and highly recommend her.
More later...
