Rick,

Thanks for showing us some images with the 50mm - great DOF and very sharp. Do you think the pictures are better than what you could have done with the 14-54mm zoom?

Have you tried the 1.4X teleconverter with this lens? How about a Woody's dioptre?

Jim

As a fish lens, I am not sure you would see any difference in between the zoom and the prime lens. However, as you know, the 14-54 is not a macro and that is why I have been experimenting with both the 35mm and 50mm macro lenses.

Don't have and have not tried either the teleconverter (pricey) or dioptre. I am heading to the Philippines in March and wonder whether the the 50mm as-is will be good enough for most macro subjects.

I won't even attempt a pygmy seahorse ... can't even see them!

Rick.

Good, but not great yet.

It is a big rig and heavy above water. In the water, it is a little too negative and it tends to want to turn "port up" so it can be tiring after a while.

I used to use floats on my E-300 housing, and that helped, but they were cumbersome and got banged up pretty quick.

I am thinking about drilling some holes towards the back of the tray to adjust balance and make it a bit less negative.

Rick.

interesting...what housing do you have? oly or ike?

Rick,

I'm surprised that your configuration is negative. I've got the Ike + dual DS-125s + ulcs arms; the rig is nearly neutral in the water and is easy to one-hand. You are right about the tendency to rotate with the port up, but I haven't found that to be bothersome with the 6" dome. It may be more of a problem with the 8" dome.
