Rebreather Dive Vacation Packages Offered Year Round on Cayman Brac

The Cayman Brac Beach Resort is offering all-inclusive rebreather dive/vacation packages. Rebreather diving is available year round but a slightly cheaper package is offered during the late summer and fall, see the links below.

The packages list these conditions so it sounds like they are just "dipping a toe" in this market to see if it is popular, and you won't be able to "do your own" thing unless you are traveling with a group of rebreather divers.

"The rebreather diver must bring their own equipment and have a buddy who is also using rebreather equipment. Some staff members are certified as rebreather divers and will be able to provide support in servicing their closed circuit equipment. Unless on boats 100% dedicated to rebreather divers, guests will be diving the same profiles set for others on the boat. Please provide minimum of 45 days’ notice if you will be diving with your rebreather."

It doesn't sound like anything other than "we'll let you dive your CCR off our boats." Maybe dipping a toe(nail) at most. Glad to see they are thinking about it, but that's about all they seem to be doing.

Zackly. If I wanted to match profiles with divers on 80s, I'd dive an 80 and save the hassle and gear hassles. I give them credit for accepting rebreathers, but it isn't exactly a "rebreather package."

Some guy with a rebreather and massive camera showed up on Brac diving with his dad....I must say, they destroyed numerous pieces of coral while trying to dive! It was unbelievable watching them!

Includes O2, tanks, bailout, sorb? But then it says you have to bring all your own equipment. So are they going to have compatible tanks for various units? The "complimentary use of dive computer (we require them)" thing makes me laugh. I guess they don't want any GUE's showing up with their RB-80's and bottom timers to do an hours worth of shallow reef dives.

It sounds to me like they're not really all that clear on what they're asking for, or what they're offering and why. This isn't really even dipping a toe in.

That statement is for the non-tech divers, they've always had that sentence in the notes for their dive packages, and they do provide computers at no charge for guests that don't have a dive computer. It is a nice perk for newer divers that may not have much equipment yet and for individuals that prefer to rent their gear. It's also nice if your gear is delayed - because luggage delays do occasionally happen when flying the small Twin Otter planes to the Cayman Sister Islands. We borrowed their free computers once just to try them out.

I think many people see someone on a RB and assume "expert diver with years of experience". When they see someone on OC they assume the exact opposite. I guess that speaks to assumptions and what they turn us into.
