Hi,

I know a little about photography and nothing about underwater photogaphy so here is a question I have.
I own a Canon Rebel XSi and am wondering if it is any good for underwater photography.
I understand that a housing is quite expensive and don't want to waste any money if it isn't going to take good photo's.

Thanks,

Ron

It is good for u/w photography if paired with proper lenses and ports. One mistake that topside photographers make is to think all they need to do is put their nice camera in a housing. Telephoto and mid-range zoom do not work well underwater. When you take pictures you want as little water between you and the subject as possible, so you need wide angle lenses (eg tokina 10-17 fisheye) for big things and macro lenses (eg cannon 60mm or 100mm) for small things. These lenses allow you to get close to the subject. For most (but not all) u/w photography you will also want u/w strobes.
