I've just been looking at the new Rebel 400D or XTi. It looks very much like the 350D. The buttons seem to be in the same place and when I called Canon and asked the Tech guys, they said it was the same size but they did not have the measurements for the controls yet. There are a couple of different functions with the rear controls but if the buttons on the housing are in the same place I think it would work.

It would be great if it did fit and we could just buy a 400D body.

Here's a look... http://www.dpreview.com/news/0608/06082416canoneos400drebelxti.asp#specs

Droooool

Oh wait, there's a question here :D :D

While the pics that i've seen and a cursory comparison of the camera dimensions and physical specs do suggest that the camera is very similiar/identical to the 350D......

I would be very suprised if there isn't some little curve or variation in the body that precludes the use of the 400D in the current housings out there for the 350D..
Just call it a gut feeling..

EDIT -
Alright did a bit of research.......

Physical dimensions of 350D according to DPreview..
Canon EOS 350D 127 x 94 x 64 mm (5.0 x 3.7 x 2.5 in) 540 g (1.2 lb)

Canon EOS 400d, info courtesy of Canon Japan's website, have generally found it to have more info than the US one..
http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/eosdigital3/index.html
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/XTI/XTIA.HTM

Dimensions: 5.0x3.7x2.6in
(127x94x65mm)

Although both dimensions are quoted as being the same (127x94x65mm)
It's important to remember that the camera isn't a regular cuboid shape, it's irregular in that it has curves.
So while it may have the same length, width and height measurements there's a chance that due to subtle redesigns of the grip or curve or the body or whatever, that it won't fit into current housings?

But who knows for sure.........

I would definitely need a new housing ROFL :eyebrow:
:14::14:, I think so too..

So amazing what you can find on the net these days...
Have a look at this link, http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/XTI/XTIA2.HTM

350D on the left, 400D on the right...

imaging-resource.com:
One of the more significant design changes is in the grip design. This shot exaggerates the size difference in the grip of the Rebel XTi (on the right). The camera body itself is about a millimeter thicker than the XT's, and the front grip protrudes about 1/8 inch further from the camera body than does the grip on the XT. The actual size difference is really minimal, but the difference in comfort and security is huge.

Seems that perhaps the 400D just might fit...... how much room is there in your Ikelite housing dennis??

Jam, have you now decided what Dslr to buy? ;)

Man, I want a DSLR for my trip to Truk in November and am torn between the Canon 400 and the Nikon DS80. but the trouble is that neither will fit existing housings. It'd be nice if all they had to do was a tweak to get the 400 to fit...

Metric or Imperial please not a mix and match between the two. These people are confused.

I think there is enough room Jam. The buttons give more than a few millimeters clearance. Thanks for the link.

Unfortunately, I'll be in Asia when it comes out. I might try to find one in Manila before we leave for Bali.

I know what you mean Jack. Hopefully the D400 is close enough to fit.

Whatever are you talking about ;).

Cough, cough, say nooo to Nikrap

Dennis I think the Asian kit comes with a 18-55mm USM lens, which is slightly better than the 18-55mm kit lens supplied in North America?
