Was just checking my email on my Army AKO account and the picture on the main login page was of a re-enlistment ceremony on the deck of the "O". Pretty cool stuff. I think I remember a thread about this a little while back. Was that one of the folks off SB? Just thought it was pretty cool. You can check it out at www.us.army.mil if anyone is interested.

That was me. We did the reenlistment on 7/6/07 and MAJ(P) Shean Phelps was the reenlisting officer. It was an awesome time and experience. Special thanks to H2O below and her crew and MBT Divers...

I assited with the re-enlistment of a Master Chief of the Consolidated Diving Unit (San Diego) at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. I think it was in 1995. Used a MK V and my Superlight diving helmet.

BeachJunkie:
congrats on the reenlistment gatorkev. Definately beats mine. How did you get the photo on AKO?

Thanks.. Because the Oriskany is a big thing here in Pensacola (and the Navy) the local base news paper (NAS Pensacola), Gosport, did an article on it and also sent it to Navy.mil and military.com. On top of that, MAJ(P) Phelps' chain of command got involved and posted it on their website along with sending the article to the Army news (he is the Army). Local news channel 3 also did a short story about it. People reenlist everyday in the military and people have reenlisted underwater but we did a lot of research and could not find anyone who reenlisted on a sunken Naval vessel let alone on the Oriskany since it was decommissioned in 1976. Thanks for the interest and support...

Awesome guys!

Thank you so much for your service!
