I can't seem to get my GS-11 to shoot in RAW format. I set it on Manual, set it for RAW plus JPG, take the pictures, and when I go into Photoshop, there are no RAW files, only JPG. What the heck is going on here? What am I doing wrong or missing?

Do you mean a G11?

G11s are supported.

How old is your version of Photoshop? You may need to update it so that the appropriate software is available.

Do you have/use Camera Raw? Has it been updated to include your camera?

Yes, I mean a G-11 (been writing reports here, LOL). It's an older version of Photoshop, version 8, I believe. I have Lightroom ordered, so I'll try that out, too. I'm working toward using my new Canon 70D, but wanted to become more versatile with the compact first.

Is there something in Photoshop I need to update for Camera Raw?

You will be able to open them in LR, but older versions of PS may not allow you to upgrade camera raw. You can of course open them with Canon software.

Do you have Photoshop or Elements? I'm not familiar with Elements. Photoshop uses Camera Raw. You should be able to open it fine in LR. I used to use a G-10 and LR was fine with it.

At the risk of sounding obvious, is your window set to open "all files" and not just jpg?

I use Canon's DPP software to open the RAW files and make the initial white balance corrections. Follow-up with Photoshop or Lightroom.

You should be good with LR. Looking at the version history in Wikipedia, Photoshop 8 appears to be Photoshop CS (initial version). Released in 2003. The G11 was released in 2009 (again from the web). In my experience, each camera appears to require its own update in the Adobe system.

From LR, you can chose to edit your photo in Photoshop. In the Library module, go to Photo and the pull down menu says edit in. From there you can go the photoshop. I sometimes get a message that my Camera Raw may need to be updated to handle the image. For me, it doesn't have an impact. But you may need to convert your image to another format to edit in Photoshop.

LR is much more suited to image processing than PS, but there are still things that you might want to do in PS that are impossible or difficult in LR.

Good luck.
