OK my daughter suprises me with a new g9 and I'm ecstatic!!!!!:D Now as a typical guy I'm having issues related to reaaaaallllly not wanting to read the boring manual. I am trying to capture in the raw mode. I set the camera on program and one of the choices are do you want raw and L and from what I gather from skimming the manual is that when this is on it captures both raw and jpg formats at the same time. In off only raw is recorded. So I set this to off and took a couple pics. Hook camera up to computer and what do I get.... jpg's. Ok lets set it to on..... Same results. When I try to open file with the canon raw utility it says choose a raw image from a canon camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:shakehead: please HELPPPPPP

Until someone with first-hand experience with the G9 chimes in, I'll throw out my idea. I've hacked my A620 so it shoots RAW, and the only way to get the RAW images off the card is to use a card reader. Using a transfer utility doesn't work. You might give it a try if you have one on hand.

How about my monitor?? It has a slot for cards.

Not got a G9 but on most SLR's you can not capture RAW in Auto or Program modes - needs to be Aperture Priority/Shutter Priority or full manual - seems odd that you've still got the option even though you're in P mode.

Might be worth trying it again but use one of the above modes and see if you get RAW.

Cheers,

Graham

Which Canon software are you using? Are you using ZoomBrowser EX? Make sure to go to CANON INC. and download the most recent updates (there were Nov updates for ZoomBrowser & Digital Photo Professional).

I think I vaguely remember someone else mentioning this problem (with another Canon camera) and it had to do with downloading files directly from the camera to the PC. Do you have a flash card reader? Try downloading via flash card reader.

I think this is a good candidate...

Quick question, did you download the RAW drivers that came with the camera? If you are using an older Canon RAW program it might not recognize any changes made on the G9.... Maybe, I rally don't have much of a clue on this stuff. I loaded the program on the disk that came with the camera and it had no trouble recognizing RAW captures, although I found it's capabilities rather limited in my limited attempts. Now that Adobe has added RAW for the G9 to CS3 I want to try that out.

Thank you everyone for trying to help. I got it now. I was not setting the camera properly. Evidentaly there are 2 settings that refer to raw and I was using the wrong one. There was an > that meant I had more choices but I did not notice it. Also raw is available in Program if anyone wanted to know that. Ed
