My Husband and I are planning at trip to Australia and NZ next year. We will be there from Feb 12, 2009 to Mar 8, 2009 and will be diving in Cairns. I just have some questions:

1) What is the temp during that time?
2) Is the company Quicksilver-Silver Swift a reputable dive company? (Cairns)
3) Will we need wetsuits for our dives? stinger suits?
4) What are the conditions like in the area? (viz, marine life, currents, etc)
5) Is the GBR packed with divers from other diving excursions?
6) Due to flight limitations on baggage, can we rent gear at a reasonable price?

Any information, whatsoever, is greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Lots of Questions Hey??

1. Temperature during Feb/ March will be warm and wet ( Above Water ). Underwater approx 25c/ 75f.

2. Quicksilver are the largest operator on the GBR

3. Wetsuits, gear are available for all dives. I would travel with your own Mask and Snorkel if you can fit them in. Stinger suits for SNORKELLING WILL BE REQUIRED. Rental for the day $7

4. Conditions. 400mm of Rain for the last 2 years in Feb, 800mm of rain for march, so a bit of a lucky dip really.

5. 1.7 million snorkel, divers per year through the International Airport now. 60 Reef Operators visiting the reef.

Cheers Andy

Thank you very much Mr. Jones for the information. I'm really looking forward to spending about 3 1/2 weeks in your beautiful country. Not only are we going to be diving but also taking in some of the culture.

Quicksilver is a great company. I always dive with them in Cairns and Port Douglas. I have been diving/snorkelling with them since I was 12 years old.

They have great day trips for the family to dedicated scuba diving.

If you go diving with them, when you book just tell them you want to rent gear. The gear is pretty good and well maintained.
