I just don't log dives
When should I service my reg? I have a titan aqualung reg that I have used a total of 7-8 dives.

I dove in Turks and Caicos 2 dives, 3 short lake dives, 3 pool dives. Is it time to service this reg? I don't want to experience any problems, but I don't want to waste $100 on something that doesn't need to be serviced. Any thoughts? Thanks :)

if you asked this qn on the board, it can only mean 1 thing, you are in doubt and there's no better way to clear that doubt when you let an authorised service techincan to give it a clean bill of health and the reg is good to go on a dive.

it's buying assurance that your regs are working perfect and would that not make you have a more care free dive?

just my 2 cents

How old is the regulator? If it has been sitting around in the dive bag for 1 or 2 years, for example, even though it has only been used 7 or 8 times it most likely needs a service.

The parts are all continuously under tension so even if not used they can ware and therefore should be serviced. Parts like O-Rings can also dry out.

The other problem is that when you packed it away a year ago or whatever the time frame is it may not have been 100% salt free this means as it lies in the dive bag it continues to corode. In some cases this can actually be worse than with a person who is diving every day with their regulator.

But bottom line if you are in doubt get it checked out.

While I agree with Aaagogo that peace of mind is worth the expense, it is important to note that not all "Authorized" service centers will do a good job. I know of several instances where perfectly good regulators, being serviced because a calender told them to), was made junk by an inept shop monkey.

Once you have the regulator serviced, make sure to do a couple of quick local dives to work out any bugs that may have been left over.

Just my $.02

I agree with rcontrera totally on that... and forgot about those inept shop monkeys haa haa, and boy have i seen some badly serviced regs when i jump on cattle boats

when visiting a new LDS or searching for to have your regs serviced,

ask to see their certs,
check if they do it in house or outsource,
how many regs does the technician service per year.
how many other make of authorized service technician certs does he/she have.
does the technician does this on a full time or part time basis.

if you need, drop me a pm, i know of a guy who is a full time reg service technician who does anywhere from 400-600 regs a year, and he does every reg.
never had any complains and yes, he has people shipping their regs from all over the state to have him service their regs, that's how good he is.

Yeah, it's been sitting for about a year now, so it's probably not overkill to get it serviced. It's definitely worth the peace of mind. I'll make sure the shop I take it to has certs, and isn't outsourcing. Thanks for all the tips!!! :)
