I am considering Antigua for 2 weeks in December.

I've read that it's not great diving but "ok" which is good enough for me at this point having been to Bonaire & Cozumel several times.

One compelling factor is that Continental has direct flights from Newark to Antigua. There is a hotel called the Rex Halcyon Cove which seems like a nice place and reasonably priced.

Questions:

Is there any shore or pier diving on Antigua? Anybody been to the Rex Halcyon Cove Resort and how was it and is it conveniently located (as opposed to someplace in a remote location which requires a car rental. No, I won't drive on the left) to some stores, restaurants , dive locations?

I would consider another hotel (under $100) which has a/c, tv etc. and good location).

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sy

I have lived in Antigua and know the property well. There is no shore diving at ALL in Antigua. Any hotel under 100 in this island would be very local, very Spartan. You are honestly asking for something not available. John Burk who used to own Dive Antigua out of Halcyon has his own 3 day a week dive program. Contact him via your hotel concierge or head to Jolly Dive and ask for Paul.

If you stay at Halcyon and take a taxi everywhere it's going to cost you. There are a few ok places to eat within a walk and one very good up the VERY steep hill. The location on Dickenson Bay is nice.
