Hello

Are some people allowed to advertise there diving business on this board were other are not. I've seen straight out advertisements of ones diving business in the past on this board and it was allowed, but on the other hand I've seen simple inossent advertisements removed quickly. what up with that, is it or isn't it allowed, please clarify.

I was also confused when I started on this board by what seemed to be some inconsistency. It appears that the moderators exercise their personal judgement which isn't necessarily wrong but which does lead to varied results. Some are more sensitive to apparent commercialism and will quickly cut references to a scuba business while others seem to turn a blind eye. Although I've not personally been aware of any such actions, I've been told by private message that some of the moderators are more critical of references to dive stores they do not frequent that those they do not. I understand that some moderators are participants in scuba businesses and that may also explain some of the confusing results you've seen.

My understanding is that a member must not advertise a product or service offered by a business if he is affiliated with that business. The exception is where a post has made reference to his business or services and he is clarifying or elaborating on that post. Of course the definition of 'affiliation' is open to interpretation too.

Apparently my mistake earlier on was to mention the name of the store too frequently in posts which were made in reply to questions or comments about the store. Perhaps the secret is to be a little more subtle (or is that sneaky?) - a personality trait with which I'm not familiar.
