I was wondering what day discovery channel airs Diving shows/ under water type shows. I have rented all the tapes from blockbuster and the local movie house. Need to watch more. THank You

We have been talking about the need for a scuba show on a sports channel. The only regular one I know of is a brand new Hawaii skin diving/ spear fishing show, "Hawaii skin diver" Don't know if its shown anwhere else though.

BAH, forget that! There is a soap opera channel, food channel and a golf channel. I think the time is right for SUB-TV: The underwater channel.

There are plenty of shows out there:

Deep Sea Detectives (History Channel)
Something something (Science Channel)
Shark Week etc (Discovery Channel in July)

Throw in a photography show, shipwreck show, coughDIRcough show, rescue/recovery show. Jeez, the list goes on and on. I should make a petition or something, or atleast google for one.

There is a serious lack of shows devoted to recreational diving right now. The last one I saw came on at about 3:00am and was on the Outdoors Network, I think. Where is Perry Tong when you need him? LOL

Hi All - It's great to hear all of your desires for more / a new underwater show dedicated to our sport! I am a television producer based in Massachusetts (often referred to as "Tax"achusetts) and my show is called "New England Underwater"! We have done shows on local WW II fighter plane (New York), Diving in the Giant Ocean Tank of the New England Aquarium (Boston), Diving Cape Neddick (Nubble Light, Maine), Diving with New England Sharks (Pt. Judith, RI) and a few more. We're actually planning a new series "Dive America" where we are going to feature a number of different dive sites around the US! If any of you would like more information about the show or our non-profit, marine education organization, drop me a line at "BATVproducer@aol.com" and I'll be in touch! Maybe it's time for that "Underwater Channel".

Take Care & Safe Diving,
Pete

For the original poster, all three of the "documentary" channels: The Science Channel, Discovery Channel and The History Channel post their schedules on the website. Here are a few...

The Science Channel and Discovery Channel (same companies but different channels): TV Listings Science Channel usually runs "Science of the Deep" about various underwater science interests. Discovery Channel runs to many shows to list, and Shark Week is coming up soon, it kicks off July 25th at 8pm EST.

The History Channel:
Deep Sea Detectives This one usually comes on Monday nights with various repeats through-out the week. Hosted by John Chatterton (and Richie Kohler) of Shadow Divers (the novel) fame. They usually indentify/investigate wrecks and places to discover what they are and how they got there.

Hope this helps, Google is your friend!

The problem with the Science, Discovery and History channel shows is that they are all reruns that keep coming up over and over and over and over and.....well you get the point. The shows were good but there just is so many times that you can watch the same thing repeatedly.

What MAsharkdiver is producing sounds interesting and I wish it was available here. The show on OLN was a bit too focused on warm water resort diving and weak in content IMHO but at least it was there for a short while. There was another show that focused on mostly coldwater diving at the time which I really enjoyed and consequently found out about some really awesome wreck dives in the Great Lakes. Its also how I found out about Abyss Dive Charters which some of us are diving with in a couple of weeks.

MAsharkdiver I think that there is some potential for an underwater channel, after all there is a wings channel for the flying folks.

OK so lets get organized . A Diver buddy of mine has been thinking of doing an U/W show (he is a TV commercial Director) and a friend of his (Airline executive) may sponsor a show as long as the airline gets publicity.

lots of sites here in the Philippines , so we may get together and do a show from wherever you are, then edit it into one show that covers the sport then we do more sub edits to go into specific areas....... sounds easy huh.... but TOOOOOOOO complicated to do hehehehheheh and tedious tooo. But it would be THE SHOW !!! if we are able to pull it off

I think it's time for ESPN2 to get going with a scuba diving show to go with their fishing block on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

SUB-TV could also do a "Nick at Nite" style re-run mix, including

Sea Hunt
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau
Primus (a 26-episode run that was full of mini-subs and DPVs)
Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom (See Jim wrestle the whale sharks!)

As well as some of the old 60's diving/underwater films:
Thunderball (I'm trying to remember all of the James Bond films with diving scenes:
Dr. No
Never Say Never Again
For Your Eyes Only
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (Yes, I know it was pre-1960s)
Fathom (all I can remember is Racquel Welch in a wet suit with a spear gun - but I remember it from my pre-teen years, so it must have left quite an impression!)

And more modern features
The Abyss
Das Boot
U-571 (run it as a double feature with Das Boot and laugh your butt off!)
Jaws
The Deep
The Fog

(Too bad work calls - I was just starting to tickle the memory banks...)
