I have a general question regarding a Dive and Stay package at a resort. If the Package states;

4 Night/6 dives

$1000 US Per Person; And also states "Based on Twin Sharing"; Does this mean It will cost me $1000 if I'm the only person in the room? Or do they expect the cost to be $2000 and I need a roommate or other person to split the cost with? If I'm to be the only person in the room, what are my other options?

This seems like a silly questions, but it is in reference to another discussion. SBer's input would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, it's not a silly question. I was wonderin' about that, myself. Thanks for asking :)

Y'know, where it says "$1000 per person, based on double occupancy"? Do you have to provide the second person?

That means you will owe $1000 if you share the room with another person. If you have the room all to yourself, you usually won't have to pay twice that or $2000. But you will have to pay what they usually call a "single supplement". Instead of $1000 it may be more along the lines of maybe $1400 to $1500. That's just a ballpark number from me but you get the picture.

I'm referring to a rather nice upscale resort (will disclose later) and NOT a backpackers resort. I would find it rather amusing if you would ask them to find you a roommate to sleep in the SAME bed; however...........

Would you expect to go to NYC, walk into a nice hotel, and ask them to put you into a room with another guest so you could split the cost???

There are some resorts that may be able to work with you and find a person for you to room with. It's especially true with liveaboards. But that's taking a big chance. You just never know who you may be stuck with. Take your own buddy along if at all possible.

PPDO rates assume the cost of the room is split in half, but the stuff like food and diving are on a per capita basis.

When you travel alone, only the percentage of the cost assigned for the room will increase, often but not always double. You can estimate the cost allocations, but if you're serious, email and get an exact quote.

Well, I figured that you were not referring to a backpacker's resort or a hostel :)

I've noticed some fantastic prices on resort/diving packages, but they all stated "per person...double occupancy" in their prices. It's nice to know that it's only a relatively minor upcharge for a single person to stay.

OK OK I've gotten many responses. So heres the story. I personally know what this means, but another poster at the below link doesn't. He want's to only pay the one person rate for a Twin share price. When they (resort) calculated in on a per room +plus meals+transfers and then the dive shop added their cost for diving, he was unhappy. If you want a fight and to be insulted, visit the below link. Please read everything carefully and visit the website if you wish. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the stupid one or couldn't read. :D Thanks all.

"Based on Twin Sharing" should = 'double occupancy' ie 2 in the room for $1000 each....In the case of one in the room (single occupancy) the cost will be more for the total package,? maybe $1500 for the 4 nights??....Your options will be pay more for the package if you're alone(single occupancy) or get a 2nd person to bring the coast down to $1000 for you(double occupancy)....
