When doing a decompression type dive, when going through the decomression faze are they all done with oxygen, or can they be done with regular air?

Stogey,

Decompression in OC work is usually done with a series of different gases, depending upon the depth, sometimes culminating in the use of oxygen. There are a wide range of parameters, and methods.

What is "OC work"?

As a moderator, I am taken aback at the finality of your reply. It seems to discourage further discussion and dialogue. I am not trying to get into a fight with you. I feel you could have elaborated, explaining the parameters and methods you allude to. To us without deco dive experience, you have not anserered the question asked (of you).

Respectfully,

Decompression diving requires much more info than can be passed on in one post. The question is so broad that a precise answer is impossible under these parameters.

A rough answer is that decompression can be conducted using a variety of breathing gases. OC is open circuit.

These are fundamental concepts that require some level of individual reading. Do a search on decompression and read what you get.

Discussing this material with someone who has no idea about decompression diving can result in someone having a false knowledge. Understanding decompression to a usable level requires a large commitment of time and resources.

OC = open circuit
BigJetDiver69 was correctly giving an answer to a question in it's simplest form. No one should try to learn deco diving on an internet forum and I think BJs terse reply was quite appropriate in this case.
Still better than many mods on here who would just say "take the course"

Gee, I didn't think that at all. The question was "are they all done on O2 or can they be done on air?". The answer seemed pretty simple. No, they are not all done on O2, depending on the specific circumstances, there may be several different gas mixes involved. What did you expect BigJet to do, present an entire deco course online in this forum?

I was hoping so . . . could'a saved me paying TDI 695 bucks :D

Kidding . . . Take the course with one of these fine organizations: NAUI, PADI, ANDI, TDI, GUE or IANTD

I think this can be answered without saying don't try to learn this on the internet or go take the course. No one is going to ask a question as was asked here and then go and do a decompression dive based on a simple answer.

To answer the question it can all be done on air (depending on the depths involved), it usually involves increasing percentages of oxygen at decreasing depths and may involve the use of 100% oxygen at 20fsw and shallower.

Now, go read a book:)
