i am new ( open water, getting nitrox, night, deep, wreck, cave, and then going into gas mixing) to the sport of diving but i know i want to get into advanced diving. i also know i do not want to buy 2 sets of gear. ( one when i started and one when i found out what i wanted/needed.) so i am asking for some advice on what to buy. right now i am looking at two setups.

1) the back plate and harness from deep sea supply. ( http://deepseasupply.com///hogrig1sm.jpg )

2) http://www.poseidon.se/ ( the one i am looking at. BeSea complete, W50 )
this is what my LDS has http://divedallas.com/proddetail.php?prod=000-55.

does anyone out there have any experience with the either one of them and some advice?

A little with the DSS but man that Poseidon is COOL!!! Especially that buckle. I want to see it in person. Wonder what wings it'll take?

ya my LDS has it, i was going to see about a reg and he showed me that poseidon, now i have to rethink my setup. i was all ready to order my set and then i went into the LDS, now more research.........

( oh ya by the way, from what i can find all of the wings on poseidon will work along with dive rights wings. i have not been able to find alot past that on the wings. )

I have some experience with a DSS plate mated to a halcyon singles wing and an oxycheq doubles wing. No experience with Poseidon equipment.

I have some advice for you though it is not gear related. Take your time... the water is not going anywhere. Deep diving, wreck diving (assuming penetration) and cave diving are all challenging pursuits where only bad things happen quickly.

Stick with a traditional BP/wing set up like the one from DSS. One other thing...take it slow and do a bunch of dives. It is great to have goals, but don't get in over your head...pun intended. Do a couple hundred dives and then think about some of the more advanced stuff.

thx for the advice, as for the rushing it. i have no plans for doing it in a month, all of my goals are long term. i plan on taking my time i am in no rush i just know what i would like to end up doing.

Good plan. Stick with a traditional BP/Wing with a wing appropriate for what you are doing right now. Tobin makes nice stuff, and Halcyon's wings are very nice. Dive Rite also makes nice wings, but I think their single tank wings aren't as nice as some of the others. Get another wing when you get doubles. If the cost of another wing isn't an acceptable option, pick a different sport.;) If you haven't already purchased a regulator, get one that will take you all the way to where you want to be, and then plan on getting at least 4 of them for your long term goal. Poseidon regs are nice (I ***-u-me the dealer that has the BeSea or whatever that thing is called is trying to get you to use Poseidon Regs too) , I used to dive them, but I switched to Scubapro MK25/G250HPs and have never looked back. A 7ft hose for a Poseidon is $80-$100, a 7ft hose for anything else is $30.

I've been down the road that you are on, and I wish somebody would have told me a thing or two along the way.

I'd take the DSS every time. Quality gear, quality person behind that gear. Ever see a Posieden rep on this board giving advice and support?

I'd stick with traditional equipment. DSS/OMS/Halcyon/Diverite/Oxycheq for BP and wings. Why need 4 dump valves? Looks like the D-rings are permanent and can not be moved or changed. Poseidon does make some nice regs that are expensive up front and costly to maintain. You get more for your dollar with equip. made in the USA. Definetely go with a hard plate.

I would definitely go with the BP/Wing system without second thoughts.
