Hello,

How long does it normally take to recieve the permanent cert card? Is 8 weeks normal? Do the workbooks really have to be collected from everyone in the class before the applications are sent in?

BTW,
Is there NAUI discounts with the number of applications the LDS sends in (10 apps = this price / 20 apps = this price etc....)? Just trying to figure out why it is taking so long. I have no problem getting air at shops that know me but I would hate to go to a new dive shop and be "carded".

Hey there,

I cannot speak to the manner in which different shops process their NAUI certs.; however, I can tell you the LDS I teach for, which has been a NAUI store for several years, is in the process of "PADI-izing" it's operations, primarily due to the frustrations experienced in dealing with NAUI.

My advice to you is to contact your Instructor &/or store management for an explanation; if no reasonable excuse is forthcoming, inquire to NAUI directly.

Good luck.

I required the workbook to be turned in before going to the OW phase. However, I wouldn't hold up an entire class because someone didn't turn theirs in. I would just not let that one person go to the OW phase. From the S & P manual, page 2.12(rev 1-04)" Students who meet the established requirements for certification are to be registered within in 30 days of the completion of their course with NAUI using current registration procedures. Students so registered are to be provided with certification credentials within 10 days of receipt."

So theoretically you shouldn't have to wait any longer than 40 days for your cert card. I always sent mine in the day after the OW phase was completed. I faxed the form directly to NAUI and followed up with a phone call to verify that the fax was recieved. I typically had the cards back within 10 days.

The is no discount that I am aware of for sending any particular number of cert registrations in. Until you get your card in, take your training logbook with you, it has a page which serves as temporary verification of your training although it does say it expires after 30 days.

From the time I submit to NAUI for a C-card it usually takes 7 to 10 days.

Not on NAUI's end.

No ... that's more a function of how the LDS operates than what NAUI requires.

Not that I'm aware of ... but then, most of my classes are between 2 and 4 students at a time.

Thanks for the replies. Will the card come directly to me or will I have to pick it up from my instructor? He did give me a temporary card but it is now expired.

Edit: Grateful, I have already contacted them and I got the workbook excuse. Apparently there are a few people in the class that have not got the workbook to the instructor.

NAUI will send the card to the shop or the instructor.

I had a similar problem with a Rescue certification. It was eight months of waiting and asking the instructor for my card. So I contacted NAUI, (go to their website to get the phone number if you need it), and they were extremely helpful.

The NAUI organization normally have the cards sent out within the week they were submitted. In addition to this, instructors now have the option of submitting for the cards online as well which speeds the process up even more. It should not take more than 2 - 4 weeks before you receive your card.

However NAUI will not process any requests from an instructor who is not current on their dues and/or insurance.

Your best bet is to talk to the instructor/dive shop and give them 15 - 30 days to resolve the issue and let them know that you will be contacting NAUI if the problem is not resolved within the timeframe.

Also, FYI, NAUI tracks and admonishes instructors/dive shops that do not provide a quality service
