I have a Scubapro regulator set that I would like to sell, but am not sure how I should price it.

Specs:
MK2
R380 and R190 octopus
5000psi gauge with compass

It is approximately 7 years old and has been used around 50 times total. It was serviced after it was last used, but that was 3 years ago, so it needs to be serviced again before used.

Thanks for your help!!!

Katy

You're probably not going to like this answer as I'm sure you are looking at over $600 worth of gear new from an authorized dealer. Using Leisurepro to estimate current new price of that gear I get something around $385 if you are actually missing the depth gauge and $425 if it is included. 3 years after service with proper storage and I would not expect to need another full service (maybe just flip the LP seats and adjust. But most buyers will insist on service so that's $100 to $150 leaving the value of the gear in the $235 to $275 range. And, even if still in good looking shape as it should be after only 3 years and 50 dives, it is still used so that would put it more in the $140 to $170 range. Smart shoppers for used gear are looking for a really good buy and would probably offer about $100. New divers who have been quoted a price of around $700 by their LDS might go for $350. $100 to a friend would be reasonable. Or just stick it on ebay and let the market decide.

Are you looking to upgrade to a newer/better reg? You may consider either keeping it for a backup reg or see if the LDS will offer a trade on it.

Hello Katy,

Welcome to Scuba Board.

Just to add to what Awap and Msg have said. To get an idea, go on eBay and see how much the items usually bring. Put a few like items on your "watch list" and see what happens. You will probably find that selling the items individually will bring a better price. Also, unless you need the money right now, consider waiting until summer to sell.

Good luck,

Couv

Hi Katy,

Welcome to Scubaboard. Right now is a bad time to be selling stuff on Ebay. Way low prices. From your perspective, the advice you are getting is not good news but is exactly how I price used gear. I wish that I could tell these guys are totally wrong, but that is just not the case. Scuba is very expensive to buy new and does not hold its value. In addition, you are looking at one of the worst years in the last 30 years to be selling recreational gear.

Your reg and console are very good quality equipment. You might check with the dive shops in your area to see if they have a 'used equipment day' sale or put the reg on consignment with one of them.

Wow...thank you all for your help! I was actually thinking of selling just b/c I feel bad seeing it sit on the shelf and thought it might be smart to make some money, but it sounds like I won't bring in much and may want to wait it out a bit more. I really do appreciate the replies.

I am FINALLY going diving again next month in Oz...but, don't think I will travel with the reg as it might not save too much money...or will it? Not sure - need to look into that more. Know anything about Heron Island and Cape Trib (and Brisbane) for diving? I am really looking forward to the trip!

I can't imagine taking a chance on rental regulators if not necessary. I would think your LDS could check out your regs for about $25 just to make sure they are still ready to go.

Get the reg serviced and take it on your trip. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing when diving. Besides, a recently serviced reg will always sell for more if you decided to sell it. Have a great trip.

Wow! I wouldn't pay anything close to that. I recently got a whole bag of SCUBA stuff for $200. That included a Sherwood Magnum Blizzard (1st, 2nd, octo) reg, 34 pounds of soft weights, DUI System/40 weight harness, SP Jet fins, UK light (big one too), Oceanic wrist mount compass, weight belt, and several odds and ends (a couple of lights, bulbs, etc.). All of the stuff had less than 10 dives and was in like new condition.

But hey, you might get $140+ for your reg if you find a sucker. If you, ask them if they want some Jets, snorkel and lights. I'll make them a deal :)

Yes, if you are willing to shop around and have the time, some really great buys can be had, especially involving a "lot" of scuba gear. I once picked up 3 Scubapro metal 2nds for $15 including shipping. I was pleasantly surprised to find I could put all 3 of them back into service. And then there was the "lot" of Scubapro regulator parts that included 3 Mk10 pistons and more for $35. Time was on my side for these kinds of deals as I watch for them to pop up.

But if a buyer has a specific need, then it becomes a question of a good (fair) price in a limited time period rather than a great price some day. If everyone was looking for the deals you (and I) are seeking just to acquire their basic gear there would be a lot more certified divers wasting $$ on rental gear or just not diving.

The OP's question was about what her gear might be expected to bring, not what is the LEAST she might be able to get for it.
