I know nothing about Poseidon or their XStream regulator. All I know is that one of the commercial dive hats that I'm looking at buying is using their regulator. I'm used to the Dial-a-Breath style seen on most of the commercial dive hats.

Is the XStream really that great of a regulator? Is there any difference when changing depths? Or even if there is a difference in air vs. gas diving?

What kind of maintenance / cleaning does it need?

And anything else that would be useful to know. I just like to know that when I spend $5500 on a dive hat, that it isn't going to fail. :)

Thank you.

my 2 cents (I had one) : very very good and reliable regulator, but not easy servicing (if you do it yourself), or find a good LDS. I've seen they were now put on the Sentinel, firsts, and BOV

They're great for clearing your throat and sinuses when you press the purge as well
Try this in a LDS for great effect and comedy relief

Thanks for the info guys.

Some more questions.

How does the xstream compare to the cyclon 5000?
What is the best operating pressure for the xstream?
and what happens if the pressure is too high or low (this is coming from surface supplied air / gas)
Would changing from air to gas (Heliox) have any affect?

I guess this should do it or now. The more I think about it the more questions I have :)

p.s. this is what I'm looking at buying.

1. no idea, i'm a numpty
2. 8.5bar i think
3. the same as any reg i would've thought? but refer to number 1 just in case
4. see 3, if not then refer to 1

i used the posiedon atmosphere FFM recently, which has the jetstream 2nd and can be switched easily from demand to positive pressure. it ****s on the AGA.

1 better breather without a doubt
2 8,5, correct.
3 As in the Jetstream, there is a built-in valve in the MP hose, ner the second stage.
4 the Xtream is a deep reg, no problem.

If by dial-a-breath you mean the Kirby Morgan Superflow then hands down get the KM. It has been used for many decades with their helmets and band masks.

Are you choosing between the Gladiator and KM helmet?

Yeah Fishpie, that is just what I'm thinking.

There is a new Gladiator Gen-2 (the website has been updated now) out that uses the Xstreme. I also have my name on the list for a new Kirby Morgan 77 (stainless steel) that uses KB's new REX regulator. I can't find any non-bias info on the REX regulator and this place was the best to find out on the Xstreme.

I'm not worried about the cost difference, the KM is about $1700 more. I'm just trying to do all my home work.

The only thing that really is naggin' at me is the regulator, seeing as it is life supporting. I know there were problems with the cyclon 5000 free flowing when using gas (well some kind of a free flow problem). But that was with a different dive hat.

You,re right about the Jetstream.....it will freeflow at low incoming pressure. I don't know for certain about the xtream. I do know that the old superflow is very tolerant to a wide range of supply pressures.
From what I've just read about the REX it looks like it is a balanced design that should make it even more tolerant.
BTW I'd better disclose that I have only used SuperLites, EXO's and AGA's on a few limited occasions....I'm no expert on commercial kit. I do use the SuperFlow scuba 2nd as my favorite recreational reg.
The MK77 does look waay cooler than the Gladiator though.......
