I'm a Fish!
I have just ordered a housing for my G12, just upgraded from my G7 in Canon housing. New housing hasn't arrived yet so I have some queries about the single tray/handle arrangement that comes with the camera. I am getting a single DS51 strobe for now.

Previously I am used to being able to hold my G7 housing in one hand (right hand) to take a photo. Occasionally left hand is needed to steady against something etc although obviously using both is always preferable.

How feasible is it to use a dual handle tray and hold the camera in RH only, using thumb to operate the shutter? I am a large male with big hands, strength is not an issue, but without being able to try I want to know if this would be practical.

Is the single tray/handle reversible - could it be flipped over and the handle reversed to try it out?

I know I really need to get a dual handle to find out and probably will eventually anyway... but am just curious about this before I spend money on one.

Thanks

I am a lady with fairly short fingers, and I would definitely say the shutter control is accessible without removing your hand from a right-side handle. You won't be able to use your thumb though as the control needs to be pulled in a backward direction.

The tray & handle could physically be mounted backwards to get a feeling for the shutter control while holding onto a handle. However the single and dual trays are not spaced exactly the same, so the handle will be slightly closer when a dual tray is attached as compared to a single tray.

Thank you Jean! Looking forward to giving this a try
