Hi great site lots of good info here.
My question is about quick disconnect. I am
scared to wash my 2nd stage and have water get into my
first stage , so my question is , is it possible and
safe to add a qd between my 1st stage and 2nd stage? so after the dive I
can just disconnect my second stage and wash it.

Thanks in advance.
JR.

What type of reg do you have? If you put the duscap on you shouldnt have to worry about water getting into the first stage........plus you would want to get the saltwater and clean your first stage as well....

I have an aqualung legend lx. But what I worry is about cleaning the second stage and somehow have the purge accidentally pushed, Then water would migrate to the first stage. But if I had a qd I would not have to worry about that. ??

When you can, rinse the regulator while still pressurized on the tank. Put the 2nd stage in a bucket of water or flush with a hose, swish it around and push the purge button all you like.

That would work great just one problem I currently don't have my own tanks yet.
So I thought of adding a qd to it.

Can you use a rinse station immediately after exiting the water? I know it depends on where you dive.. But most times you can do it while the lines are still pressurized.

don't do it, just wash it with the dust cap on and be careful. The few drops of water that MAY get into the first stage won't hurt it, and if it does get wet, get it checked out by a tech. Furtheremore, a quick disconect may disconnect at strange times leaving you underwater with a second stage sucking water.

True, I guess I will just be carefull

Thanks to all

If your still concerned, after rinsing it just put the reg back on the tank (making sure you dry off the dust cap) and purge the 2nd stage. That will blow out any water that may have gotten into it.
