I’m going on vacation soon to Punta Cana. I’m staying at the Ocean Blue & SandsResort. I have my own equipment and I requestedand received all dive package pricing as well as the cost of individual single/double tank divesfrom the resort operator. PelicanoSport is the name of the dive shop. Myquestion is does anyone who has been to Punta Cana know of a cheaperalternative (dive shop) near my hotel that can pick me up by boat from theresort dock? I’ve found many otheroperators on various vacations that do this and the price was a lot less than at aresort shop. Please, any and allfeedback is welcome. Thank you.

Just checking the prices, and yours are actually significantly cheaper than the resort dive shop I dove out of at Punta Cana (Seapro). When diving out of a resort, I guess one must expect higher prices for the convenience. According to Pelicanosport, if you're not at one of 'their' hotels, then there are additional charges, so keep in mind potential additional charges if you chose an outside dive shop.

Also, I'd suggest doing the Catalina or Saona dive excursions - however, they do take the entire day, as you probably have to travel to Bayahibe by land transportation and then travel by boat to the islands. Local diving at Punta Cana is average; I did the local diving on my first dive day, just as a warm water practice.

Sorry for no extra concrete information on cheaper dive shops.

I can't remember seeing a "resort dock" at any hotel in Punta Cana when I was there (and I walked ALOT of the beach). The hotel ops all use small "panga" style boats where you backroll in and pass your gear up to the captain then haul yourself back in with a mighty kick!!!

The diving in Punta Cana is pretty poor and the offshore reef is in bad shape. Your best bet would be to arrange a trip south to the Bayahibe area and arrange to dive Catalina Island or another southern dive spot. The reef is in much better shape with lots of fish.

There are a few shops in Bayahibe but in Punta Cana the diving is limited to the hotel ops.

Thanks Bob for the info. From what I've heard so far the diving in Punta Cana really sucks. I'm very suprised but as long as you strap a tank on my back, it's warm and I'm in the ocean I'll be happy. Thanks for your help and if anyone elce is out there reading please keep the comments coming.
