I am planning a honeymoon for May. I have posted several times concerning different destinations. Sorry for all the different posts… I am now researching Punta Cana, D.R. The resort that I am interested in is the Paradisus Palma Real. We plan on doing some diving and are a little concerned about the quality of diving. Can some seasoned travelers please share their experiences?

1. Has anyone ever stayed at this particular property?
2. What vis can we expect?
3. Are there mostly reefs or wrecks?
4. What dive operators should I look into?
5. Can the quality of diving be compared to places such as Cozumel and Belize?
6. What type of excursions or additional activities are offered?

Thanks

You may have done this already, but I would check on Tripadvisor for up to date information on the resort.
As for the diving I can tell you that it is fine. You will see some sea life and visibility can range from 30 to 50 feet. I believe the dive operator is right on the resort and they take small dive boats (single engine) out to the reefs which are a five minute ride on the boats. All dives are single tank and guided by an instructor or DM and the groups are relatively small. The sites are nice, but you can not compare them to Belize or Cozumel. They do although have a grounded wreck, which is plenty of fun. Remember this won't be a dive vacation, but rather your Honeymoon, so as long as you keep that in mind you will be fine.

I personally stayed in the older resort Paradissus, which is the sister resort to the one you mentioned and am accounting for my last 2 stays there. I hope this is a help.

Yea, I did do that and it was quite helpful. We have decided against going to DR because we are worried about the quality of diving. We have decided to go to Cancun instead. Thanks for the info Kuma...

I believe you will be much happier in Mexico (Cancun) as the diving is by far more exciting.
You can always bounce to Cozumel as well...enjoy your honeymoon that's what matters.
