Looks like I will be going to Punta Cana in mid August of this year. Has anyone been there and can recommend any diving sites ....and.... boats to dive with???

Thanks!!

Yes, and the diving simply is not worth doing. There's one small, shallow, trashed, overdived, overfished, low viz reef off that coast, plus surface conditions can be rough on the unexposed east end where Punta Cana is located. This is quite common knowledge among experienced Caribbean divers, and often the Punta Cana dive ops will come right out tell you it stinks.

Make arrangements with a Punta Cana dive op, any one will do, to bus you down to the La Romana/Bayahibe area to the south southwest of Punta Cana where the best DR diving is located. They do this routinely and will set everything up.

BTW, I was just there in March and have a trip report on the La Romana/Bayahibe area coming out in the next issue of Undercurrent---> http://www.undercurrent.org/ .

Best regards.
