We dove 2 days w Dive -In from Mayan Palace Resort which cost $20 usd each way or $200 pesos. I think I got cheated caused someone told me it's $12 usd each way.
First day, we dove Pardo 57ft/42 mins w mini swim thru and little sealife, nothing exciting. Second dive, Aquarium 49ft/48 mins (My Reef, that's what our guide Cettina called it. Our boat Captain was named Julio and he used a GPS locator to find the reef, which made me a little nervous, provided by Cettina. At least, we wouldn't get lost and found the reef exact location. That reef was full of life!
Second day, we dove C-56 WII wreck 91 ft/33 mins. We descend from a buoy line and was greeted by an Eagle Ray. Once we reached our depth, we went to the stern of the boat. Again, a squadrons of Eagle Ray did a fly by,amazing! We penetrated the boat toward the bow. Once we exit the boat, the squadrons of Eagle Rays escorted near the ascend line, sweet! Dive two, we dive Puentas(The Bridge) 59ft/43mins this site has full of life and better swim thru to practice your buoyancy. I was a little disappointed that after 30mins, we did a safety stop at 40ft. We didn't do a multi level dive profile. However, at 2 mins, I saw a turtle. I looked at my husband and the guide and I signed to go after the turtle. I kept the dive profile between 40-35ft. As the turtle was out of my sight, I returned to where my guide and husband positioned themselves. Then, we did a safety stop at 15ft. I was stunned that my dive ended that fast, with amazing scenery full of life! I guess since we covered reef site, there's nothing else to see, Wrong! At least, I could used up my air.
Each dives, I came back w 1/2 of my tank! I understand that one the 1st day, we had a newly certified diver so I was OK w 45 mins dive. Also, she wanted to only do 20-30 SI, but I convinced her I wanted close to 40mins. That extra 20 mins makes a difference to my enjoyment and relaxation! On the second day, it was only my husband and I. I know that he consumed more air. On averaged he came back w 900 psi on those 2 dive days except on the wreck, he came up at 650. I thought she was kidding that our wreck dive will be 23mins. The extra 10 mins, we took pictures and watched the Eagle Ray. She did accommodate to our needs and took pictures of us when I told her my PSI and husband. With the dive sites, except the wreck, I would be satisfied w a 60 mins, just wandering around and enjoying the scenery. I just think she cut the dive too short! Check-in was 8am at the shop, went to the Marina dock at 9am, and went in the water 9:30-9:45am. Our boat Captain, Chicken Little, had a better personality that Julio. It makes a big difference when they smile! Cettina took her time to prep, 8am-9:45,and rushed during the dives. The crew changes your gear between dives, but you have to put it together on the first dive at the dock. Which is fine by me! My suggestions would be: Check-in at 8am, get to the dock at 8:30-8:45am to gear up instead of waiting for the boat to arrive and wait for the guide to park the car and wait for them at the dock. Dive by 9:15-9:30 depending on site location so you have a relaxing SI and longer dives. If I'm in Puerto Morelas, I would like to try Wet Set. They have a great 3 dives package per day and coming from Cancun or PDC it would be worth it and they offer free Nitrox. All the restaurants that we ate at was quite good, Maybe we were hungry since snacks on the boat was oranges. A simple granola bars, fruits, and water would be better. Also, I would like to dive in PDC and compare, they do have a wreck. Also, I would dive another cenotes and use CenoteXperience, great dive shop w great personality and safety. Their dive time is 45mins, which I'm fine w for safety issues. Dove Dos Ojos and the Bat Cave, 30/18ft. They also told us that some of us will come back with 1/2 tank eventhough our guide was carrying 2 tanks. Nice job CenoteXperience, you won me over!
