Puerto Galera for OW

Hi all,

Planning on going to Puerto Galera, Philippines by End June/Early July. Know that it is the rainy season in Philippines, but heard that it is not that bad in PG and diving is still good there. Also heard that the sea is pretty calm there and is quite suitable for someone who just got their OW last year and only has about 8 dives under their belt.

Am I getting the right information?
Any other inputs are welcomed.

Hello there! I was in PG in March.. the temperature was about 26degrees than.. i guess now it should be quite alright.. there are many dive sites there and is easily accessible and lots to see!! just make sure to dive within your limits and you will definitely enjoy yourself!!! Diving is good all year round at PG, however the problem lies in the boat ferries to Manila. Problem arises when seas gets rough on crossing PG to main land as all ferries are prohibited from crossing when winds and waves start acting up.

Long range planning this season is not good. During this time we plan our dives on a weekly basis due to the start of typhon season.

what we do, like last year, we dodge the typhoon , we keep track of the situation then as soon as it clears up we head to batangas. Though we dive almost weekly on weekends (regular day job in manila during the week keeps us from doing it then entire week )

we dodge the typhoon or the south west mooonsoon winds by checking the weather reports that is updated between 4 to 6 hours.

Yes, the storm season has started but you can still go diving in PG, all you need is a weekend with good weather. The boat trip takes about an hour and can get pretty rough since it'll be crossing a channel but it's not so bad.
You can do day-trips to PG from anilao in batangas, the package includes 3 dives + lunch, then you can either go back to manila or stay in the dive resort in batangas and dive the next day. You can also book a dive trip in PG where you can stay for the night. Costs vary but are reasonable. If you want, PM or email me, i can refer you to my buddy DM who does dive trips with minimum expense.
I have gone diving in PG and the dives were very good, lots of things to see. You have a lot of choices, either marine life, drift dive, wrecks, etc. The conditions are suitable for beginners except for the "washing machine" which is a drift dive in really strong current, but if you're feeling adventurous... go for it!

Like Paolov, we also usually dive during weekends cause it's the convenient time for us but you can also go to PG or Anilao during the week, there'll be less divers around and the resorts have discounted rates as well.
