PT-029 Attachment?

I just got a pt-029 for my stylus-600 and it has a ss attachment
to the left of the power on/off button. Is that a hot shoe? What is it used for?
I can't find anything in my manual about it.
Any ideas about strobes for this set-up would be appreciated.

I've heard it is used to attach a small target light.
But I attach nothing there.
I use INON arms to setup my D-2000 strobe.
