Will the Scubapro hoses with the "spoked wheel" cross-section design work with other reg brands? Is a special tool required, or is there a workaround?

I made the mistake of buying a long hose from a SP dealer and didn't notice the connection until too late.

That is scubapro's version of a tamper proof hose. It is a standard LP hose. You can either buy the special tool for it or use a rag and set of pliers.Remember to tighten it just enough to keep it from coming loose so dont overtighten it. Its the o-ring that makes the seal not how tight it is.

The SP hoses seem to be very good quality, so I wouldn't say you made a mistake. Just use pliers.
