I'm a Fish!
Hello,
I KNOW what I have found recently, but just need an "expert" to confirm the way it is pronounced-- and which syllable has the accent!

Phyllodesmium Longicirrum

I assume the first word:

(fi-lo-DES-mee-um)

But the second, is it:

(lon-JIK-ur-um)

OR rather this?:

(lon-ji-SYR-um)

So, basically a "hard C", or a soft C, and that will affect the placement of the accent, too..

Thanks in advance,
HB

It depends what country you're from. At conferences it's been very obvious that americans pronounce scientific names differently from other english-speakers. The species name is constructed from "longi" and "cirrum" so I (american that I am) would use lon-ji-YR-um.

...and I would imagine the C is a hard C. However, and again, I'm not the expert but I would expect "longi" to be pronounced "long-ghee" as opposed to "lon-ji" ie. another hard sound.

fi-lo-DES-mee-um long-ghee-Kee-rum

...and WOW, what a beautiful nudi!
