We've been bombarded over the last week with requests for information on whether we're sponsoring the underwater cleanup at Professors Lake in Brampton again this year, and the answer is ... is ... YES!

It doesn't cost divers anything more than a tank of air or two (get a fill where you want, or from us ... up to you) and it benefits the community. Plus, you get a chance to check out your weighting or new equipment configuration.

What's the link for info?

We're looking forward to seeing you there.

Hopefully the VIS is better this year then last, If i remember correctly the water temp was pretty warm at about a sizzling 48 F and the VIS was at MOST 2 feet, I couldnt see my freaking console!!

Sounds Great, how much does it pay.

Sounds like a worthwhile excercise, too bad I'm working that day.

One question: What kind of wetsuit do you recommend for water 36° to 50° Celcius? Would I be too hot in a 7 mil FJ? I've never dove in water that warm (water temps around here are still only 2°C or so)

I'd love to, but that's boat rigging day. We have been asked to recover the end of a chain dropped in the marina (yeah, I know that's almost commercial, but there's no compensation involved, except our dock will be secure). We raised a couple of them 2 years ago, we just locate the end, tie a light rope on and let the folks up top do the labour.
After that's done, we'll continue on a bit and clean up some of the trash that accumulates (mostly accidentally dropped or blown off the boats).

What is Professor's Lake? Can a person dive there year-round or is it primarily a marina? (never been there, didn't know it existed)

They don't normally allow diving there (liability issue). Just this springtime, store sponsored event (and I applaud the stores that do such events, they show divers in a good light). Tri-City Diving of Kitchener has a cleanup dive happening at Gullivers lake the following weekend (May 15). I would go, but will be in Kingston instead. :)

Its a man make lake up in Brampton. I believe it used to be a quarry or something like that...

I lived in Bramalea in 1959 - 1975.... That whole area was farm land at the time. Bramalea is built on Artesian Wells ( spelling ?? ), there is underground water tables everywhere. They created Professors Lake for recreation just by digging down. It never used to be there in the 60's. There is an old quarry called Chasell's Pits that used to be an ABC cement factory. It filled with spring water and is very deep. It is at the corner of Dixie and Queen Street. ( There used to be a few trucks in there, don't know if they ever got removed ) That area is now a recreation park area.

There my trip through history.

Cheers
