but I'll ask anyway!

I have just bought a INON UW165 Macro lens for my Canon A85 and DC30 housing.
I expected that I would lose a bit of light but my pictures just arent coming out at all with the internal flash, they're completely dark.

Is there anything I can do/ am I doing something wrong, or will I just have to bite the bullet and buy a strobe?

Cheers

I'm not sure about the A85, but I have an A40 (without a macro lens) and I set the white balance to "Cloudy day" and use the internal flash and I get good macro shots.

Is this the lens you brought from me??
Haven't been able to get on my email so just wanted to know that it has arrived.

and yes what alcina said. All that info would make it easier to give help. It does seem strange however, even though as I never had a problem.

I know this might sound dumb - but you haven't left the black diffuser on the lens mount have you?

Just realised what the problem is - I had previously redued the internal flash output down to try to reduce backscatter problems. With flash on full it seems ok, I'll test it out today.

Thanks for your comments

Cheers

you have some great shots in your gallery. Just wondering are the 'eggs'/bubble coral shots colour changed in photoshop?? Either way they are both fantastic

I wondered this too. Its not eggs, apparently it's called a wandering or swimming anemone.

Had a look at your gallery - looks fantastic. Its good to see there's some good diving in Perth seeing as we're moving there from Sydney in about 6 weeks time!

The great white was especially cool. Was that taken in the Perth area??!!! Thats what you call a high adrenaline dive!

In asian waters, comb jellies typically live on some bubble coral. They look like tiny round brown disk stuck to the polyps.

Been to perth jundalap and freemantle area, never got a chance to dive.

great white pics were off perth, close in. I did not intentionally jump in but yep the adrenaline rush was great. When you get to Perth if your looking for a buddy I'm willing on most weekends.

Yes davidlkh I live in Joondalup (jundalup) and drop the second 'e' from freemantle, the diving is pretty good here. Especially over at Rottnest Island.

Finally are you guys saying the colouration on the bubble coral is some type of anemone or jellyfish?

I have a Canon A80 with Canon DCS900 housing. What do you think about the macro lens?
I'm getting used to mine, but it's a bit of a process. Today, I went snorkling and ended up with a lot of pictures out of focus. I'm not sure if it was the surface sun shimmer that caused my camera not to focus or what. Anyway, happy photos!!
