pressing mode during a dive does the battery self check? suunto zoop novo

pressing mode just seems to "turn on" the already on watch into diving mode, it beeps and does the screen/backlight battery check.
I dont know what is being achieved when this happens, with the older zoop, just turned on to diving mode once when it first gets wet.

anyone understand the logic of this improvement?
