Carlsbad, CA, March 20, 2011  -- Side-Mount diving is finally taking center stage. It was only a few years ago that Side-Mount diving was for “Extreme Cave Diving Only.” But because of its many benefits, it has recently become a great alternative to the more traditional “back-mount” style diving. In November 2010, UTD successfully launched the first ever “Recreational” side mount system, know as the Z-System, bringing Side-Mount diving to the forefront of the diving world. The main concepts behind the Z-System are to ensure that “side mount diving” is consistent, scalable and integrated into the already well established UTD convents, configuration and ethos. Mixed team diving – back-mount and side mount – is now possible with an integrated consistency between the two disciplines, with only the most minor of differences.

Soon after the release of the “Recreational Z-System,” its scalability was revealed as the configuration was pushed into the cave, technical, and trimix realms, while remaining consistent with back-mounted cave and technical teams.

Continuing to drive the Z-System forward through testing and innovation, UTD is now announcing the arrival of the higher capacity trim device. Called the Z-Plus System, this new trim device has 37lbs/17kg of lift, accommodating divers requesting more lift capacity for either heavy steel cylinders or multiple stage botttles.

The Z-Plus Trim Device is fully adaptable to both the Z-Harness, a traditional backplate, and the many accessories for the Z-System. UTD has produced a 10 minute video equipment blog outlining the basics of the new Z-Plus System Video Equipment Blog: Z-Plus Side Mount System and Z-Plus Trim Device - Unified Team Diving . Below is a basic outline of the specifications of the Z-Plus System and Z-Plus Trim Device.
