Just took delivery of a new flat port (Olympus ppo epo1) for Olympus housing for my em1. I was contemplating using the old port from my Epl2 housing and buying the port adapter from Zen to make it fit. A new OMD port came along at an OK price so I bought it, and guess what ? Olympus have done the same thing. They have packaged the old style port with their own plastic port adapter ( not aluminum like Zen) and called it the PPO E PO1 port for the OMD. I feel a bit cheated. Both domes I have already are aluminum (Zen and Athena) so seeing a fully plastic port (glass front) doesn't seem to ring of the same quality. Oh well, time will tell as to its durability. The polycarbonate may even be more durable than the aluminum ones.

That's weird- the EP01 port I bought a few months ago is one piece and set up for the OMD housing. I'd be a little irritated about that as well; who wants an extra o-ring to worry about? As far as the polycarbonate, I don't mind it as it's a little lighter- all that aluminum makes for a pretty negative rig.

Hi Furnari.
thanks for your comment. When I said it came packaged with their own adapter, I meant it came as one unit but you can see from the back of the port that they have attached an adapter that goes around the old style mount. I would be interested in seeing a photo of the back of your port to see how it differs.

Hi Nick-
I hope these two shots help- it's definitely one piece. I bought it in March of this year from the same seller as this auction on e-bay:
New Olympus PPO EP01 Lens Port for PT EP08 Underwater Housing for E M5 US Seller | eBay
In their photo, you can also see that it appears to be one piece.

For what it's worth, I also was an E-PL2 user, and switched to the M1 this year. I bought this port only because I sold my 14-42 with the E-PL2 set up, and bought a 12-50 because of the e-zoom capability. I quickly found out that the 12-50 lens doesn't work with the Zen dome for the 9-18, and I needed the normal focal length range for a poor viz, cold water trip where I expected to do more close-up shooting. I have since switched over to the 12-40 and the old 4/3 PPO-E02 port, which also works well with the 60mm macro. If I had it to do over again, I would have skipped buying the ep01 and gone straight to the 12-40 set up. It's a much better lens- the only potential advantage of the ep01 is that it's shorter and better fits the 60, allowing you to get an inch or so closer.

Hi Furnari,
looking at you images, it appears to be exactly the same port as mine. Yes it is one piece on the inside, but looking at the end of the port that goes into the housing, you can see a second sleeve attached to the outside. The end of the sleeve on the outside is cleverly hidden under an angled flange. I may be wrong, but it looks similar in operation to the Zen adapter I have already. Let me know what you think.

Hmm...I see what you mean. It also looks like there's a release detent on one of the flanges. I pressed it lightly and it didn't seem to move; if the port isn't one piece, I don't think Olympus intends for it to ever come apart...
