My husband and I both travel for work, but we live in Pensacola. We would like to dive on Saturday's when we are home, but we are not sure if we would run into decompression problems. We know there are no dive pre-flight times so that rules out Sunday dives since we fly out on Monday very early. But, are we okay to dive on Saturday if we fly in on Friday evening? (We would usually be going to about 75ft.)

Thanks!

The only effect you would have from the flight directly would be a slight decrease in disolved nitrogen from the lower partial pressure during the flight.

No worries on the dive but of course make sure you stay hydrated and rested before the dives.

Have a great time!!

The idea that you would have a lowered dissolved nitrogen level due to flying assumes you dive immediately upon descending from altitude. In most cases, the time it takes you to get from the airport to the dive site is sufficient for you to saturate at sea level.

The real issue is dehydration, particularly if you drink alchohol or diuretics (e.g. caffeine) during the flight. Also, fatigue can be a real factor in terms of efficient off gassing as well as performance in the water.

Hello Brooke:

As the other respondents have indicated, there does not appear to be any problem related to flying per se prior to diving.
