I am with Parrotheaddiver: Please teach us Obie-wan how to rent a car for half price. --*looking around*-- It's just the few of us "friends" here, and we won't tell anyone else!!!

Wondering,

Wristshot

OK Wristshot and Parrotheaddiver,

You can rent from Less Pay at either the Barracuda hotel or the Park Royal hotel, and can get a VW for $15.00 in the low season, a VW convertable for $18.00. www.islacozumel.net/services/lesspay/ Go to their website, make a copy of it, like it says and that will guarantee internet pricing and discounts. Low season is until Dec 22nd. There are compacts for $30.00 and you get $5.00 off of that during the low season. Also at SMART rent a car www.islacozumel.net/services/smartcar/ you can pick up a VW for $20.00 in the low season, and $26.00 in the high season. The topless VW's go for $23.00 and $29.00. They're Downtown at Calle 1 Sur and Ave 10 Norte and are also in front of the airport.

Melissalv29, Thanks for the info on Living Underwater. I still haven't chosen a dive operator yet, so I'll check them out.

divematt did you reserve a vehicle before you left home? We are not sure what day we want to rent and I am hesitant to reserve one before we leave. :06:

If you don't know which day you want to rent, just wait until you get here. We are getting into low season, so there will be plenty of cars available.

Thanks Christi, we don't normally rent a car when we come to Coz but we haven't been to the other side of the island in about 15 years and this trip decided to take a look to see what has changed.

See ya in a little over a week.

wow...15 years for the other side...parrotheadiver...that's a long time! The "other side" really hasn't changed THAT much in the past 10 I've been here...just the San Miguel side..so hopefully you won't be too dismayed or disappointed. It's still very wild over there, a couple of more restaurants/bars than in years past and a good deal more traffic on the road as folks take the "grand tour." The old abandoned hotel has now been renovated and is active so that's a nice change. Enjoy!

Hi Sherri, after I posted that I realized it had been since 1983. I don't add to good. Guess that would be 21 years. When we went to the eastside there wasn't anything over there that I can remember. We found a nice spot to pull off and spread some towels out on the sand and drank beer that we bought in town and played around in the water didn't see anyone all day while we were there. Of course I remember San Miguel before cruise ships. The town would shut down for siesta from 1:00 to 5:00. AAAhhh memory lane. :D

Yeah, we just got back yesterday. Wife wanted to take her Mom (to watch our little one, 7 y.o.) and her newly certified, non-guage checking, buoyancy challenged brother went with us also. I had him for 3 dives (only because my wife LOVES to dive and I wanted her to enjoy some of her diving, at first I told her I wouldn't dive with him), she had him for 3 dives. I literally checked his guages and inflated/deflated his bc during all of our dives. The child (19 y.o) just isn't a safe diver. He flat wore me out. So, I'm DYING to go back with just the wife or the wife and her kids which are great divers for their experience level at 18 yrs old and 14 yrs old. Maybe we can make it back in October, at least us two. Until then I'll have selective memories of this trip. Take care all, Greg

I agree there is no cure for the Cozumel blues. I experience them for months!!! Even though my husband and I go to another island in between, just waiting for my yearly May trip is excruciating! I can't ask to go often than that because my husband is not a big diver, so I go alone.

When I first went to Cozumel in 1978, Playa Bonita was there on the east side, but it was called the Naked Turtle. There was nothing at Chankanaab but a little restaurant on the road where it used to run between the lagoon and the ocean, and you could snorkel in the lagoon.

There weren't near as many restaurants on the island, but I remember Las Palmeras, Morgan's (gone now), and (I'm pretty sure) La Choza, Sonora, and Santiago. My favorite dish was turtle steak.

Our deep sea fishing trips included lunch on the beach down near where the resorts are now, and the deckhands would snorkel there for fresh lobster and conch.

No cruise ships.

When do the post-Cozumel blues go away? I've been back since Sunday night, and I still find myself looking on Cozumel websites often while at work. I even checked the Cozumel weather on weather.com for what reason I don't know.

Anyone else with similar experiences?
